Holy freakin’ smokes, Batman! I did it and can’t even believe it! I lost 30 pounds in less than 3 months!!! True, I won’t be able to keep going at this rate as I get smaller but I’m going to drop big numbers as long as I can. It’s truly amazing what our bodies can do and right now, mine is a freakin’ machine.
How I lost 30 pounds in less than 3 months
When I initially started my keto weight loss journey at the beginning of the year, I didn’t have a plan as to how quickly I wanted to get there but I knew I wanted to do it as fast as possible. Who doesn’t right?
At first, I was just making sure I was staying under 20 net grams of carbs. You know, standard keto diet shit but eventually, I started slowing down. By a lot. And I knew as big as I was that the weight should’ve been melting off of me and that’s when I made a simple change.
Instead of just sticking to my 20 net carbs per day, I started tracking my macros. I know it’s important to make sure you stay within your protein limits because too much protein can damage your kidneys so I’ve always been cautious of that. But I didn’t get closer to my 30 pounds until I started tracking my fat and calorie intake.
Why getting enough fat is so important
Your body burns fat for energy while doing keto and you have to feed your body to give it fuel to burn. If you don’t eat enough fat, your body will begin to store fat as it thinks you’re starving yourself which is a good thing if we were to ever have a famine. But most of us will never have to worry about that (hopefully).
By giving your body the fat it needs, your body says, “Hey! I’ve got all this excess energy to burn and I’m going to use it!” and it does. This is one of the reasons you get so much energy while on keto and your mental clarity improves as well. Our bodies are designed to run on fat, that’s how it’s been since our great creator put us all here. Cavemen didn’t have sugar mills and factories to run to. They lived on meat from animals and whatever fruits and veggies they could find. That’s how the human race has survived from the beginning of time.
Two important things to keep in mind
I didn’t lose 30 pounds by just eating fat. You have to drink plenty of water and you must watch your calories!!! I’m so tired of reading message boards and seeing people say, “I just track carbs.” or “You don’t need to watch what you eat as long as you stay within your carb limit” or “I can’t survive on 20 (net) carbs”. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Did you hear me? I said bullshit.
Drink your water, mind your calories and eat enough fat. No matter how much you want to believe this is a magical diet, it isn’t. You have to put work into it. You always get what you put in and if you half-ass it, you’re going to get half-ass results. I don’t know about you but I’m tired of being a fatty, damn it! I’m turning my body into a fat-burning machine and it’s paying off.
One thing I like to indulge in is fat bombs. I have an awesome recipe under our dessert section for these peanut butter chocolate fat bombs. The main ingredient that helped me lose 30 pounds? Coconut oil!
Not only are these delicious but you’ll be able to hit your macros every day regardless how crappy you eat. Screw celery sticks with peanut butter or boiled eggs as a snack. I’m having a few of these per day and soaking up the rewards.
